Have you ever simply bent over to pick the lightest thing up and then had your back “go out”? This is a very common occurrence that we see in our patients. Many people think that if they only focus on exercising their abdominal muscles, this will help to add support to their spine. It will in fact aid in support, but the ENTIRE core needs to be strengthened.
After your injury has calmed and you are well into your healing process, Dr. Schumacher offers active rehabilitation sessions. This will help to provide you with a better awareness of ALL the muscles in your core to focus on, and then ultimately will in turn add strength and help to prevent your injury from recurring in the future.
If you’re interested, Dr. Schumacher is happy to answer any questions you may have about Active Rehab sessions!

Have you been looking for an awesome weight loss/fitness website that’s totally free? Hunt no more! I highly recommend www.sparkpeople.com. I began doing this program October 3, 2011 and I love it. Not only does this program offer an easy and healthy balance to food intake, but it also has excellent free 5-10 minute videos. All you need is a Swiss ball, yoga mat and light free weights (2, 3, 5 lb).

According to To Your Health, here are 5 smart substitutions when dining out:
1) Skip the fries. Ask your server what other side dish they can offer.
2) Watch what you drink. Water is free, it’s calorie-free and doesn’t have any sugar or caffeine.
3) Either split your meal with someone or put half of it in a “to go” container. Don’t “Super-size”.
4) Choose a veggie to add to your meal.
5) Know what you’re ordering. Either look at calorie counts on the menu or visit the restaurant’s website for the nutritional values.
